Surrey (/ˈsʌri/) is a vibrant ceremonial county in South East England, bordered by Greater London to the northeast, Kent to the east, East and West Sussex to the south, and Hampshire and Berkshire to the west. The bustling town of Woking is its largest settlement.

Covering 1,663 km² (642 square miles) and home to 1,214,540 people, Surrey's north is part of the Greater London Built-up Area, including suburbs within the M25 motorway, as well as Woking (103,900), Guildford (77,057), and Leatherhead (32,522). The west features bustling areas like Camberley, Farnham, and Frimley, extending into Hampshire and Berkshire. In contrast, the rural south boasts charming towns such as Horley (22,693) and Godalming (22,689).

For local government, Surrey is a non-metropolitan county with eleven districts. Historically, it included much of southwest Greater London, excluding the borough of Spelthorne, once part of Middlesex. It's proudly one of the home counties.

The North Downs, a stunning chalk escarpment, defines Surrey's geography, running from southwest to northeast and separating the bustling north from the serene south. The rivers Wey and Mole, both tributaries of the Thames, gracefully pierce this landscape. The north is a lowland, part of the Thames basin, while the southeast is part of the Weald. The southwest features the picturesque Surrey Hills and the expansive Thursley, Hankley, and Frensham Commons. With 22.4% woodland cover, Surrey boasts the densest forested area in England.
